Providing diagnostics & treatment for all types of ophthalmic conditions

Our ophthalmology service aims to provide a prompt and efficient referral service for a wide range of medical and surgical ocular conditions in companion and exotic animals.

The presence of on-site specialists in anaesthesia, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology and soft tissue surgery, is a great benefit and allows a comprehensive approach to most conditions involving the eye.

Sue Manning is a BVA/KC/ISDS Eye panellist and owners wishing to arrange an eye test under the scheme may contact us directly to arrange this.

Ophthalmology Services

Our consultations include complete ophthalmic examination using:

  • Slit lamp biomicroscopy
  • Direct and binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy
  • Tonometry

with further investigations performed as required including:

  • Gonioscopy
  • Electroretinography
  • Diagnostic Imaging: Ocular ultrasonography & Computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Extraocular surgical procedures include:

  • Distichiasis surgery (by cryosurgery)
  • Ectopic cilia surgery  
  • Parotid duct transposition
  • Lacrimal punctal surgery
  • Third eyelid surgery including: Nictitans gland replacement (“cherry eye”) & Scroll cartilage correction
  • Blepharoplastic surgery and “facelifts” (including eyelid reconstructive surgery)
  • Corneal cross linking
  • Corneal grafting surgery
  • Enucleation
  • Evisceration and intrascleral prosthesis (ISP)

Intraocular surgical procedures, including:

  • Intracapsular lens extraction or phaco-lentectomy for lens luxation
  • Cataract surgery by phacoemulsification with intraocular lens replacement
  • Adjunctive automated vitrectomy and intraocular cautery if required
  • Glaucoma surgery & Gonioimplantation
  • Excision of intraocular neoplasia
