Joana graduated in 2007 from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto, Portugal. She did an externship at the University of Tennessee, where she spent 3 months in the small animal and equine departments.

After graduation, she spent another 3 months in Spain in the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Zaragoza, spending her time in the small animal surgery and ophthalmology departments. She worked in small animal practice in Portugal for several years and still owns a small animal practice in Portugal.

Joana obtained the General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Surgery (GPCertSAS) from Improve Ibérica / European School for Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ESVPS) in 2009. In 2015 Joana decided to accept the challenge to come to the UK and worked at the Kingston Veterinary Group in Hull for one and a half years. In January 2017 she joined Pride Veterinary Centre.

Joana enjoys all areas of small animal medicine and soft tissue surgery.

She has 2 beautiful rescued cats, Pardinho and Pandinha. Pandinha, the youngest one, is a proud three legged agile and resilient girl that was rescued and had her leg amputated when she was only 2 days old! In her free time Joana likes to watch movies and series, loves travelling around the world and, of course, to spend time with family and friends.
